Job Summary

  • Provides excellent service to patients and visitors and quality support to physicians and other clinic staff. Registers patients, verifies and enters accurate information, collects patient payments, answers multiple phone lines, schedules appointments, and performs various clerical duties. Must have 6 months experience in the healthcare field, excellent communication skills, some knowledge of Word and Outlook, good data entry skills and a strong ability to multi-task. Use of basic medical terminology and successful navigation of an electronic medical record are required for successful completion of essential functions of the role.
  • Accurately and timely registers patient upon check-in. Enters all required patient personal, insurance and additional information; scans front and back of insurance card and front of photo ID; collects and scans all required documents with signature (to include PHI and clinic registration form). Indicates arrival status in EMR.
  • Accurately and consistently verifies insurance eligibility and benefits on all patients as assigned. Enters the patient copay amount in the appropriate field in the EMR as well as any notes necessary to communicate with staff, other clinics or the billing service.
  • Discusses account balances, co-pays, payment requirements and refers patients to billing service as appropriate.
  • Collects patient copay, accurately posts the payment in the computer and completes the end of day process.
  • Upon check-in of a return patient, verifies existing data at each visit and updates information as necessary.
  • Answers phone, accurately schedules appointments, and relays messages to the appropriate person. Checks message for completeness, accuracy and spelling errors prior to sending. Always verifies the name and phone number of the caller.
  • Sends and receives faxes from EMR system, saving the document correctly in the patient's EMR and assigning to the appropriate recipient as instructed. Checks faxes for multiple patients and separates as necessary. Double-checks the telephone number for accuracy on outgoing faxes.
  • Copies and scans any necessary documentation, saving the document correctly in the patient's EMR and assigning to the appropriate recipient as instructed.
  • Accepts mail and correspondence and delivers/sorts as instructed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

  • One year clerical experience and six months healthcare experience are required.
  • Prefer medical office, insurance, hospital or computer experience.
  • Keyboard skills accurate 40 wpm. Expertise in customer relations, telephone skills and computer applications is required.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Computer knowledge required.
  • Prefer additional education in medical terminology, electronic medical record training, or business classes.

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)

Compensation/Benefits

  • $13.74-$22.44/hr based on previous work experience
