Location: South Tower

Shift Available: 4 - 10 hr days (M-F) 7:00-5:30 and call after hours

General Description: Under the limited direction, supervises and directs all nursing aspects of the Invasive Cardiology Lab including staff and patient assignment and supervises daily operations.

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Performs as Leader in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Supervises and assumes responsibility for ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient and high quality nursing services and support/education in the assigned invasive cardiovascular service areas.
  • Provides patient care, operates equipment and participates in routine and complex procedures involving invasive cardiac catheterization, angiography, temporary pacing, device implantation, biopsies, electrophysiology and other interventional cardiac/vascular procedures.
  • In collaboration with the patient/family and other members of the healthcare team, assists in implementing plan of care in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Notes and carries out physician orders.
  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient's condition to appropriate personnel.
  • Utilizes appropriate patient/family teaching methods and ensures education needs are met for both pre and post procedures.
  • Assists in the evaluation of patient responses to care and makes appropriate adjustments as necessary.
  • Utilizes available information to evaluate patient progress toward attainment of targeted outcomes.
  • Assists and instructs staff in needed aspects of the work.
  • Performs such duties as appropriate.

General Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with co-supervisor, administration and medical directors to improve service delivery and promote growth.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital, regulatory, accrediting and professional guidelines and standards.
  • Organizes, develops and supervises a department and its staff.
  • Additional functions include: tracks, monitors and reports trends in quality outcomes, satisfaction, productivity and operations; assists with employee evaluations and employee rounding; supply and vendor management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required

Experience: Three (3) years' experience in Invasive cardiac laboratory or radiographic special procedures required. Lead experience required. Advanced ECG interpretation skills required. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS (American Heart Association) required within 6 months of hire. PALS (American Heart Association) required within 3 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of radiological equipment used in performing invasive cardiac procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology relating to cardiac procedures and radiography. Knowledge of invasive cardiac procedures, photographic principles and of anatomy and physics. Skill in performing invasive cardiac procedures. Skill in observing, evaluating and caring for critically ill patients. Skill in effective verbal communications and in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others. Must possess extensive knowledge of anatomy for coronary, peripheral vascular and electro physiology studies as well as anatomy pertinent to device placement. Able to perform nursing and scrub or monitor role. Able to assist and instruct less experienced staff in monitoring or scrub. Ability to effectively supervise staff which includes effective team building skills.
