General Description:

The Reproductive Laboratories Manager (RLM) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Andrology/Endocrinology laboratory and the Assisted Reproductive Technology Laboratory. The RLM, under the supervision of the Director of Laboratories, is responsible for the maintenance and modification of the Policy and Procedure Manual as well as other documentation deemed necessary to meet the goals of total quality management of the combined laboratories.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for testing, overseeing quality control and quality assurance and the management of other testing personnel.
  • Directly supervises the Embryology Staff. and establishes work schedules and is responsible for the training and evaluation of testing personnel.
  • Works as a bench scientist in the Andrology/Endocrinology laboratory and Assisted Reproductive Technology laboratory
  • Under the direction of the Director of Laboratories is responsible for maintaining laboratory accreditation under CLIA 88, CAP/SART and the FDA.
  • The Laboratory Director can authorize/designate the RLM (with TS certification) to perform some tasks related to laboratory quality control and quality assessment which are performed by the Laboratory Director.
  • Is frequently required to interact with faculty physicians, referring physicians, residents, Fellows and patients, regarding the analysis and interpretation of testing results.
  • At the direction of the Laboratory Director, or in some cases the Medical Director, takes an active role in meeting the research goals of the Department.
  • Participates in continuing education in order to maintain and expand his/her skills in the areas of Assisted Reproductive Technology and endocrine and andrology testing as well as maintaining his/her TS certification by ABB.
  • Some weekend and holiday work is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's in a biological or physical science preferred or a non-science Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 24 hours of course work in the sciences including 12 hours of chemistry (inorganic and organic chemistry) with an additional 12 hours of course work in the biological sciences preferred. A Master's degree in the Reproductive Sciences is preferred.

Experience:A minimum of six years of experience in performing andrology and endocrine testing including a minimum of three years of experience working as an Embryologist.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:Board-certified as a Technical supervisor (TS) by a national accrediting board such as the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Mastery of all of the techniques used in the ART laboratory including embryo culture, micromanipulation techniques, embryo assessment/grading, cryopreservation of embryos and gametes and embryo transfer.
  • Must have a keen grasp of the application of quality control measures as related to the running of the ART laboratory.
  • Experience and skill in the use of Excel and Access computer programs regarding the construction and maintenance of data files.
  • Proven ability to manage a team of professionals and lead a departmental function
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple high priority deliverables
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
